For my graduating exhibition, on the early morning of June 1st, 2006, I screened this short video of myself in a remake of a scene from iconic film À bout de souffle (1960) by Jean-Luc Godard. The scene ends with a close-up on a newspaper the main character is reading.
In the video, the newspaper’s date reads June 1st 2006, which drew an incongruous connection between an old fictional souvenir and the up-to-date reality, producing confusion in the jury’s mind between fictional and present times...
